When it comes to home design, there are an endless amount of ways that you can ensure that your home is exactly how you want it to be. There are so many projects and so many options for your house to look great, and one of the best ways that you can create a warm and inviting area of your home is by making an amazing window seat.

The whole window seat design can focus on your creativity and self-expression, but you want to have one area of the house that is going to allow you somewhere to rest, relax and sit back. A window seat is something that you can create in your reading nook and you can have any number of bay window customizations that make your window seat the perfect, serene space. So let’s take a look at some of the tips that you need to have an amazing window seat in which to relax!
- Match up the area. For your window seat, you want to color match the area with the rest of the room. So take a look at what colors you’ve got for your Bay window frames and then match it to the rest of your window seat. Whether you put the window seat in the living room, the bedroom, or even in the hallway, it can make a big difference to the cohesiveness of the design in your home. You want to make sure that it matches the carpets and the paintwork so that the seat fits into the aesthetic you’ve already got.
- Use the space properly. If you’re looking for somewhere to add more storage to your house, you can do the same with a window seat. A lot of window seats have the ability to store extra linen, books, or anything else really, and you can install drawers or shelves underneath the seat.
- Make it cosy. Most people choose to have a window seat as a cosy place to sit and read. Get some pillows and a soft blanket and make sure that you reupholster the seat itself so that you are sitting on something that’s going to be supportive. It should be well lit and it should be warm enough for you to sit in, which is why you should make sure to upgrade your windows before you create the seat. This way you know that you’re not going to have to worry about the breeze from the outside attacking you while you’re sitting and reading your book.

- Light it up. We talked about having a well lit window seat, so make sure that you’ve got some sconces or lamps to make sure that it’s lit up enough that you can concentrate on reading. As you’re sitting by a window, you’re going to have plenty of natural light during the day, but you might still want to use a space in the evenings. Reading by the sunlight and not light bulbs is always good for the eyes, but in the evening you won’t have that luxury.
