Most Sacramento happy hours wrap up by 6pm. That’s great if you work a 9-to-5 and can reliably escape by 5:30. It’s less helpful if you’re a nurse getting off a 12-hour shift, a server finishing your own dinner rush, or simply someone who prefers to eat dinner before drinking discounted cocktails.
Late night happy hours exist for the rest of us. These are the spots that restart drink specials after 9pm, 10pm, or even midnight. I’ve tracked down every legitimate late night happy hour I could find in Sacramento, verified hours and specials where possible, and organized them by when they actually start.
Fair warning: the Sacramento bar and restaurant scene has churned significantly since I first published this guide in 2016. Several longtime favorites have closed permanently. But new spots have opened, and some establishments have expanded their late night offerings. This is the current state of late night happy hour in Sacramento.
Key Takeaways
- Best true late night deal: The Snug’s “Golden Hour” is currently on hiatus, but an all-day “Extra Value Menu” is coming soon. The Butterscotch Den runs Supper Hour from 10pm to close daily with $8 cocktails and food specials.

The Snug
Address: 1800 15th Street, Suite F, Sacramento 95811
Hours: Daily 4pm-2am
Phone: (916) 706-0841
Late Night Happy Hour: Golden Hour is currently on hiatus. The Snug is unveiling an “Extra Value Menu” with all-day deals (rather than specific hours) very soon.
The Snug consistently ranks among Sacramento’s best cocktail bars. Owned by Irish Hospitality Group (who also run Ro Sham Beaux and The Butterscotch Den), it’s a neighborhood bar that happens to serve world-class drinks. Their Freezer Martini has been featured in national publications. The midnight to 2am happy hour is the real deal for late night industry workers or night owls who want quality cocktails at reasonable prices. Cozy indoor booths and an enclosed patio make it comfortable year-round.
Bento Box (Midtown)
Address: 1101 16th St, Sacramento 95814

Happy Hour Schedule:
- Sunday-Tuesday: All-day happy hour
- Wednesday-Saturday: 3pm-7pm AND 9pm-close (late night)
Specials: 50% off select sushi rolls (dine-in only)
Half-price sushi rolls is one of the best late night food deals in Sacramento. Bento Box has been running this special for years, and it’s still going strong. The 16th Street location stays open later than most sushi spots and draws a consistent crowd of people who’ve figured out the math. The happy hour menu is limited to select rolls (not the full menu), but at 50% off that’s rarely a complaint. They’ve become known as “the late night after show restaurant” where you can get a full meal even arriving at 10pm.
Centro Cocina Mexicana
Address: 2730 J St, Sacramento 95816
Hours: Sun-Thu 4pm-9pm, Fri-Sat 4pm-11pm

Happy Hour:
- Regular: Mon-Sat 3pm-6pm

Specials: Beverages starting at $3, appetizers from $5-$7 including tostadas, empanadas, and small guacamole.
Centro has been serving regional Mexican cuisine at 28th and J for over 30 years (they’re celebrating three decades now). Their late night happy hour on weekends is one of the few legitimate options for discounted food and drinks after 10pm. The bar stocks over 150 tequila selections plus house-infused options. On Friday nights they close off half the restaurant for the late crowd. Valet parking available Thursday-Sunday starting at 4pm ($10, in lot behind restaurant).
The Butterscotch Den

A “funk and soul supper club” in Oak Park where you grill your own steak at the table. The late night Supper Hour (10pm-close) brings the same deals as the early evening window, making it one of the few spots in Sacramento with legitimate happy hour pricing after 10pm every night. The Butterscotch Den is part of the Irish Hospitality Group family, so expect quality cocktails. Their Freezer Martini was featured in Esquire as one of the best in the country. Live jazz on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Orchid Thai stays open until midnight or 1am depending on the day, making it one of the later options for food in Midtown. Their Tuesday all-day happy hour is a standout deal, and the Friday-Saturday late night happy hour (10pm-2am) gives you another window for discounted drinks and food. The bar program comes from the same team behind Shady Lady Saloon, so expect craft cocktails alongside the Thai menu. The building runs on solar and is LEED Platinum certified.

Owner Mason Wong rebranded the 13-year-old establishment as a Mexican restaurant inspired by his fiancee Sylvia Moreno, who was born in Mexico. The venue stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. While their happy hour ends at 6pm, the space has historically supported late night crowds.
Greater Sacramento Area
If you’re willing to venture beyond Sacramento proper, these spots in Roseville offer legitimate late night happy hours with the same quality of deals you’d find downtown.

The Ones We’ve Lost
Sacramento’s restaurant scene keeps changing. These spots appeared in previous versions of this guide but have since closed permanently:
- Simon’s Bar & Cafe (1415 16th St) – Closed November 30, 2023. The longtime legislative watering hole since 1984 was known for Chinese food and late-night beverages, frequented by politicians conducting after-hours deals blocks from the Capitol. Owner Simon Chan Jr. cited rising minimum wage, inflation, rent, and the loss of his father to COVID-19 in 2021.
- Ink Eats & Drinks (2730 N St) – Closed October 2024 after 21 years as a Midtown late night staple. The sign on the door read: “It is with a heavy heart that we have closed our doors permanently.”
- Public House Downtown (1132 16th St) – Closed June 30, 2025 after 13 years. Originally opened as Firestone Public House in 2012 (renamed in 2018 after a trademark settlement). The space is now Casa Lola.
- Lucca Restaurant & Bar (1615 J St) – Closed March 2020 during California’s first stay-at-home order and never reopened. The Mediterranean-influenced restaurant operated for nearly 20 years and was a regular stop for Arnold Schwarzenegger during his time as Governor.
- Tack Room (1624 J St) – Closed late 2024/early 2025. The equestrian-themed whiskey bar featured saddles, bridles, and an emphasis on high-end whiskeys.
Tips for Late Night Happy Hour Hunting
Check social media first. Hours and specials change frequently. Most bars update Instagram before their websites, and if you see they’re active, sending a DM on Instagram or Facebook is often faster than calling. A quick message can save you a wasted trip.
Kitchen hours matter. A bar might be open until 2am, but the kitchen often closes earlier. If you want late night food, confirm when the kitchen stops serving.
Industry nights exist. Some bars run unofficial industry nights (often Sunday or Monday) with better deals for service workers. Ask your bartender.

Davis? Roseville? Sir those establishments are not in the City of Sacramento, or even in Sacramento County.
West Sac isn’t in Sacramento County either and is a several minute walk from downtown. Greater Sacramento regions deserve to be included, and I also don’t want to create an article for each city.
