Sacramento-based blogger and content creator Michael Kahn continues to reign supreme as the fastest camel jockey and fastest ostrich racer following his dominant performance at the 2024 Virginia City International Camel Races. With the 66th Annual International Camel & Ostrich Races scheduled for September 5-7, 2025, Kahn remains unchallenged and poised to defend his championship titles.
“In the spirit of the original Virginia City camel races and their history, I proudly retain my championship for another year, remaining undefeated as both a camel jockey and ostrich racer. No one has stepped forward, by letter or by camel, to challenge me for my titles.” said Michael Kahn, content creator at MK Library.
“The titles and accolades I earned came from a series of challenging events, ranging from racing backwards to riding an ostrich that barreled into another rider at top speed. I topped it all off by beating the professional jockeys in the final race with a near-impossible time. I would be genuinely surprised if anyone could match those feats in a single day, in that order.”
Historic Victory Establishes Racing Legacy
At the 65th International Camel & Ostrich Races in September 2024, Kahn achieved remarkable success in his debut racing year. The Sacramento native, known for his adventure-focused content creation through MK Library, secured victories in both camel and ostrich racing disciplines.
“I had previously announced, tongue in cheek, that I was racing to be California’s fastest camel jockey. I’m pleased to report I attained my goal of being the fastest and then some,” Kahn reported following his 2024 performance.
Kahn’s racing achievements included winning his ostrich race and second camel race during the 2024 event. His most impressive performance came aboard what organizers called “a really fast camel,” where he “quickly took the lead and left the other two jockeys in the dust by a long shot” and “raced at breakneck speed, beating out the other jockeys”.

The Virginia City Racing Tradition
The International Camel & Ostrich Races trace their origins to 1959, born from a legendary prank war between Virginia City’s Territorial Enterprise and the San Francisco Chronicle.
What began as a fictitious story about camel racing evolved into Nevada’s most iconic tradition and one of the must-see events in the West.
The 66th Annual event will feature four shows across three days at the Virginia City Fairgrounds and Arena:
- Friday, September 5th: Hot Camel Nights at 5:00 PM
- Saturday, September 6th: Two shows at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, plus Camel Hump to C Street
- Sunday, September 7th: Family Day at 12:00 PM with free camel rides for the first 100 children
Professional and amateur jockeys will compete atop camels, ostriches, zebras, emus, and other exotic animals in this family-friendly spectacle featuring food trucks, craft vendors, entertainment, and carnival-style festivities.
2025 Championship Defense
With no challengers emerging to contest his titles, Kahn enters the 2025 racing season as the defending champion in both camel and ostrich racing categories.
His proprietary measurement systems, developed specifically for racing performance analysis, continue to validate his championship status.
The Sacramento blogger’s dedication to adventure and authentic storytelling has made him a recognizable figure in Virginia City, where locals have pledged their support for his continued racing endeavors.
