GoPro Accessories

Want to discover which GoPro accessories are worth buying? These are my notes on buying, testing, and using various accessories for the GoPro Hero10 and GoPro Hero 9 in real-world scenarios.

Testing Process

I buy each new GoPro within a month of it being released and spend time buying and testing various accessories in different scenarios, photo shoots, and adventures. It’s important not to be rough with your gear, but you also don’t need to be afraid to actually use it.

Is it excessive to use both a DSLR and GoPro at the same time? Nah!

After buying the GoPro HERO10 the day it was announced, I was pleased to learn many of the accessories I had already bought for the 9 would also work for the 10. However, I added a few new things to the mix.

MicroSD Card

I’m currently rocking the Sandisk 400 GB Extreme. To find help narrowing down your own choices, check out my post on the best MicroSD cards. I ended up going with this card because I was in the middle of a trip and ran out of room on my 200 GB version. The 400 GB version was the only decent card the nearest retailer had in stock. I’ve been happy with its performance and ability to hold up in the heat, with a camera mounted behind a windshield and filming for extended periods in a desert.

The verdict: Worth it, however, I’d consider buying a 512 GB or 1 TB version to make sure I have enough storage space to take ample footage over a 2-week trip. This one cuts it a little close.

Battery Charger

The Dual Battery Charger is an essential accessory. I somehow ended up with 4 batteries for my GoPro, so being able to charge two at once makes for getting nonstop footage while on the go and not having to worry about a dead GoPro. As a bonus, it uses USB-C to charge, which means I am usually plugged into my vehicle’s charger or a battery pack while hiking.

The verdict: Absolutely – you might even consider picking up a few extra batteries to rotate.

Enduro Battery

GoPro released this battery version in January 2022 – the Enduro Battery packs 1729mAh and performs down to 14°F, as well as a 13% faster recharging rate and up to 40% longer recording times.

The verdict: This is a must-have battery – better than the standard one it comes with.

ND Filters

I like to throw on an ND8 or ND16 filter when shooting in the middle of the day to help reduce blowing out my highlights and get a more cinematic experience. I’ve included a budget ND filter pack option that does the job, as well as a more expensive but higher-quality option from PolarPro.

Accessory Kit

I bought the accessory kit bundle for the GoPro Hero10. If you haven’t owned a GoPro before, it may be worth getting alongside a second accessories kit. However, if you already have the basics, I’d opt for the subscription deal or money off instead.

The verdict: Meh. Not something to be excited for.
